Desks at the Foot of the Bed: Design Do or Don’t?

Kathy Kuo 9:48 pm

There's a lot of things we love about this image, but what we love most is how well that campaign desk (yes, folks, it's a desk!) works as a double-duty pieces at the foot of the bed. We'd venture a bet that the gorgeous Bergere chair seen in the lefthand corner of the image becomes a desk chair when it's time to get down to business. In a small space (and even in a larger one!), putting a desk at the foot of the bed is a great way to add a little bit of office space in the bedroom. This space-saving solution is great for those living in smaller homes (apartment-dwellers, we're looking at you!). Just peek at the room below, designed by Nick Olsen. The desk blends so well into space that you barely notice it. It looks like an intentional part of the design.

Foot of the bed design ideas abound. We've spoken before about how much we love a bench at the foot of the bed. Sometimes, built-in shoe storage can be utilized. But when you're looking to add an office space into the bedroom, there's really no better design idea than to put a desk at the foot of the bed. It's stylish, it provides an extra counterspace to play around with, design-wise (look at the gorgeous flowers above!), and also enables you to get some work done without having to dedicate an entire room to your work.

Above is the apartment of design superstar Nate Berkus. How chic is his desk? Foot of the bed, folks! It can be done, and done well. Nate's home clearly doesn't lack for space, so here, it's purely a design decision. But we love it! We'd venture a guess that Nate stows his laptop out of sight whenever he's not working, utilizing the desk as a space to hiold mementos and family photos instead of the usual pens and pencils. Chic, beautiful, and smart. What's not to love?

Want to get the look in your own bedroom? We selected six different desks for you to choose from, each of which compliments a different design style: French Country, Hollywood Regency, Industrial Loft, Rustic Lodge, Coastal Beach, and Contemporary. Click the links below the image to shop, or head on over to our site to peruse all available desks.
