Is it just us, or is fall the best season there is? There's something about cold weather is what it brings with us: the smell of crackling logs in the fireplace, the scent of pine needles creeping in through the windows, the warmth of an oversized sweater, the steam rising off a freshly made cup of hot cocoa. There's little we love more than autumn rituals, and these rituals include prepping our home for the new season. As the temperature dips down, our decorating juices flow again, triggering the need to decorate for fall with a few simple changes. Want to give your home a cozy facelift for fall? Invest in a few luxurious leather pieces (the armchair below is one of our absolute faves; it's perfect for snuggling into with a faux fur throw and a big book), and top them off with all things rustic, weathered, and warm. That means lots and lots of candles, fresh firewood for those extra chilly nights, and earthy hues such as browns, golds and reds. Warm colors play naturally off light, crisp interiors, and can easily be switched out when the weather gets warm again. Embrace the chill with cozy Pendleton blankets, and deck the halls with eucalyptus wreaths.
Below, our top three ways to get decorate your home for fall.
Textiles. Fall and winter are all about warmth and comfort, and that means changing out your summer throw pillows and light blankets for something heftier. We're all about the knit textile trend this season, but we also can't decorate for fall without giving some love to our favorite winter weather classic: the faux fur blanket. Ours is from Pottery Barn. Paired with Mongolian wool pillows and cashmere blend throws, your home will be warm, cozy, and sophisticated as can be.
Rustic accents. Fresh flowers can be harder to find come fall, but that's okay! Make due with what nature's got to offer in the way of warm, wintery vibes. Berries, branches, eucalyptus leaves, and wreaths do wonders to spruce up your home for autumn, and as a bonus, they smell great, even after they've dried out.
Seasonal scents. There's nothing that rivals the scent of a crackling fire, but for those without a fireplace to call their own, Diptyque's Feu de Bois candle comes pretty darn close. A true classic in the candle world, there's really nothing like it to mimic the scent of fall. As lovely as Diptyque's scent is, there's no need to stop there. Anything wintery or fall scented will add an extra layer of cozy to your home. We love all of Illume's holiday candles, specifically their Heirloom Pumpkin (so good) and Balsam & Cedar varieties. Trust us: when your home smells good, you feel good. It's as simple as that.
