Rooms We Love: Patterned Pop in the Kitchen

Industrial Kitchen Pop of Red

Here's our thought on buying a home: never, ever, buy somewhere without the sort of architectural details you're looking for. Style can be changed. Architecture can't. That is, unless you're looking for a demo project. Ceiling beams, oversized windows, large open rooms…these are things you can't create if they're not there already. Ugly carpets, bad tile jobs, terrible paint colors…those are thing you can change. Splurge on architectural details, then go from there.

A great example of this theory? The beautiful kitchen above, with a stunning graphic tiled floor, amazing architectural detail (hello, ceiling beams!), and candy apple red Tolix chairs. We'd happily call this amazing space our own. Can't you just imagine the kids eating Cheerios at that breakfast nook? You flipping pancakes at that giant range? Cooking up Thanksgiving dinner for twenty and having more than enough counter space to do so?

Featured in Domaine, and designed by Jessica Helgerson, this kitchen has got us swooning. We're loving the all white approach (when in doubt, go all white, then add in color with your accessories. Exhibit A: red Tolix chairs). We love that Helgerson didn't shy away from using a bold patterned tile on the floor. She was able to get away with doing so since she kept the rest of the room simple, with white subway tile on the backsplash, white painted ceiling beams, and white cabinets. A few architectural lighting features bring the space together, while professional grade appliances such as a Viking Range and Level Faucet create a chef's dream kitchen. You might notice that there's a lack of pillows and curtains in the space. When you're going with giant iron windows, curtains will take away from the power of the look. Helgerson was smart to keep the space pillow and drape free.

What really makes this space shine, however, are the industrial accent pieces that serve to give it some serious character. The vintage light that hangs above the sink is a great touch, as is the marble-topped table, which gives the space an old-world charm. You almost feel as though you're dining in a homey Parisian cafe. As we said above, we love the red Tolix stools – but since they're simply accent pieces, you can switch them out whenever you so choose. Since the rest of the color palate is so simple, it's easy to switch up the look every now and again.

Are you loving this room as much as we are? Shop the pieces below to get the look for yourself.
