If you ask us, one of the hardest parts about moving in with a man is having to merge design styles. See, men don't tend to gravitate towards metallic hues or feminine touches. They don't tend to possess much of an eye for detail. They put comfort first, and don't much care about the style of their home. Sure, they want things to look nice, but beyond that, they could care less about artistic touches, or decorative accessories. Designing a home with a man is a constant battle. How much color can you use? How much gold? How much silver? Can you add a bit of sparkle here and there? How about some lucite? Floral wallpaper might be out, except if you can convince him to ignore the powder room. An enormous crystal chandelier in the dining room might be pushing it, and forget about adding agate. A true design dilemma, moving in with a man is! But fear not: we've got a solution for you. If you're looking for a place to express your feminine side, head to the closet. And we don't mean hiding your feminine side in the closet. We mean letting it shine.
Here's our thinking: men could care less about the closet. Many master bedrooms these days have two separate closets: one for the man, and one for the woman. Which means his closet can be a boring, colorless mess of suit jackets and polo shirts, while yours can be a true design masterpiece. In the design board above, we're using the term closet lightly. The pieces above could just as easily find a home in a small unused office space (turned dressing room, of course!) as they could in an actual closet. Designing a chic, feminine closet space is as simple as following the 4 steps above. First, start with statement lighting. Next, locate a looking glass. No good dressing area is complete without a beautiful mirror. Once you've got that squared away, find yourself a beautiful etagere -all the better to store shoes, baubles, purses, sweaters and more. Lastly, zhush it up. Add personal touches in the form of decorative accessories to bring the space to life. Put it all together, and voila! A gorgeous, feminine, one-of-a-kind, no men allowed, chic closet.
