Industrial Loft - Pendants & Lanterns

When the old factories and warehouses of urban areas like New York City’s SoHo district were first being populated by artists, the abundance of natural light was one of the most coveted features of these repurposed dwellings. However, when the sun went down, lighting the large, expansive spaces provided a challenge, one which was met with pendants and lanterns. An Industrial Loft style pendant or lantern can have it's roots in many places: in a single bulb, in the repurposing and wiring of old machines and factory items like wind turbines and cylinders, in the hammered metal or mercury glass of a vintage inspired shade, or even the simple aluminum clamp lamps used in DIY. All of these inspirations have been updated and upgraded to create a selection of lighting, which is as stylish as it is utilitarian.
