It’s the most wonderful time of the year… for entertaining friends and family. Whether or not you consider yourself a hostess, a well-styled and well-stocked bar cart is an essential item everyone should have in their home. For parties, a bar cart serves as the official libation and conversation station, offering an easy way to manage refreshments and get people talking. If you’re not quite the party animal, a bar cart still functions as an organizational piece, and it offers the duality to serve effectively as bathroom storage or a unique nightstand. Okay, so you buy a bar cart. Now comes the tricky part. How do you style a bar cart? While there’s no right or wrong answer to that question, we do have some useful tips for you to follow in order to achieve a beautiful bar cart that’s dressed to impress. In fact, our Kathy Kuo design team put together three superb bar cart looks that you can recreate featuring some of Kathy’s absolute favorite entertaining essentials. Enjoy!
Bar Cart Look #1
Stylish barware is a must. For this first bar cart design, we wanted the cart to feel regal and glam while remaining modern and masculine so that it’d be appropriate for any home or apartment regardless of gender. To achieve this, we chose our Odette bar cart from Arteriors. You can see how it is a simple setup that features thin straight lines for a sleek look and feel. For the barware, we picked out geometric and smoked glass decanters; they give off this hip and slightly-retro 1920s vibe that’ll look fantastic for parties or dinner with friends. Then for the stemware, we chose champagne flutes and cocktail glasses both from our Lorry collection. Notice that a silver rim acts as a design detail that ties the stemware together (and it also offers some mixed metals to the look, which is something we’re big fans of here if you haven’t read our Mixed Metals blog article). Make sure when you’re choosing your barware and accessories to mix together decanters, ice buckets, and stemware at various heights to achieve visual layers.
Bar Cart Look #2
Go beyond the basics. Anyone can buy a bar cart and a matching set of stemware. What really elevates a bar cart to the next level is styling elements, such as decor or faux florals. Our go-to resource for faux florals is always John-Richard. They create breathtaking arrangements that are rather indecipherable from the real thing, so if you don’t have a green thumb, don’t worry! Pop a few faux flowers in a beautiful vessel and you have yourself an instant low-maintenance bar cart upgrade!
Bar Cart Look #3
Get playful. Add in your favorite decor items to act as conversation starters! We have a few favorites here at KKH, like our bestselling brass hands and marble olive branch sculpture, but it’s really about choosing beautiful pieces that express your personality and style. And lastly, don’t forget to invest in nice coasters and actually use them! Nothing hurts an interior designer’s soul like a water ring stain.
