Florals, pinks, furs, and fun: these are just some of the ingredients to a sweet and elegant kids bedroom perfect for the girl who likes to play dress up and collect her favorite stuffed animals. We are thrilled to be writing about our most recent Design Bar project, the most darling girl’s bedroom for the daughter of our wonderful client Jaclyn S. Mother of two adorable little girls, Jaclyn found us through Instagram and reached out through our Design Bar website as her family transitioned from the Upper West Side to Rye, New York so she could begin to create a home for her growing family. While our Design Bar work will encompass most of the rooms in Jaclyn’s new home, phase one of this project commenced with the bedroom of her four-year-old daughter Elle. As we all know, moving to a new place and away from your friends can be a trying time for anyone, so one of the primary goals for this project was to create a fun, amazing, and comfortable bedroom that would welcome Elle into their new home.
Having a great eye for design herself, Jaclyn requested that our design revolve around two preexisting pieces we absolutely adored: a mesmerizing sputnik chandelier and a simply GORGEOUS wall covering designed by one of our own good friends, Monika Hibbs. This delicate floral wall mural has a smooth, matte finish, and it immediately transformed the bedroom into a vibrant and dreamy wonderland (and the wallpaper can be purchased from us when you call in to Kathy Kuo Home!). From these pieces, we developed our color palette for the room: a cotton candy swirl of pinks, greys, and whites with rose gold as the accent metal choice. For the floors, we went with a lush rug-on-rug look so Elle’s first steps out of bed every morning would be on our heaven-to-the-touch Veruca fur throw. For the bedside table, we chose our regency style Una nightstand, which lends a touch of elegance and ample storage space to the design. Check out the end result above and below!
One of our favorite features of the room that we helped design was this Kallax shelf unit from IKEA that we used as a bench. We IKEA-hacked the piece by creating custom storage bins to fit the units underneath (not pictured) with rose gold pulls so the piece ended up looking fully custom. We then had a cushion custom made in an ultra-luxe silk velvet with white contrast piping to lay on top. And, of course, we added fun throw pillows and the cutest stuffed animals on top! We love this kids bedroom idea as a way to fit in an additional seating area while also creating maximum storage!

We also created a vanity for the room by placing together a desk, mirror, and chair. It was the perfect addition for a little girl who loves to play dress up, but the vanity can easily transition into a desk for when she starts school and needs a space to do homework.
Another kids room, Jaclyn’s master bedroom, and family room are soon to come!
