Behind the Scenes: Holiday House Tablescape Design

Hi cuties! Can you believe that fall is here? After an action-packed summer of both work projects and family fun and travel with my kids, I feel like the season flew by and I'm only just now really starting to reflect on everything from the past few months. One thing that came to mind is that I really wanted to share more about some of our special events projects we worked on in the Hamptons this summer! As you know, KKH had a blast participating in the Summer 2022 Holiday House Hamptons Annual Tabletop Event at Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton in July.

"This was an amazing event and ticket sales went to benefit breast cancer research and prevention. In short, we designed a fantastical tabletop design, got to showcase it alongside some truly talented industry peers, and it was all for a great cause—nothing better than that!"

This project was truly a labor of love and even though we shared a reveal of the final look already (check that post our HERE), I wanted to shine a light on all of the behind-the-scenes work it takes on behalf of my Design Team and Branding Team here at Kathy Kuo Home. Every detail is given so much thought! Read on to see how it all came together.

Hamptons Coastal with a Whimsical Flair

When we started work on our Holiday House tablescape, we first determined that we wanted the ambiance to be light, airy, elegant, and whimsical. We also decided on a color palette early on, settling on neutral colors with some blue accents and greenery.

"The goal was to create a whimsical dining setup that was not just visually appealing, but also intentional and thoughtful, with individual vignettes that inspired delight from every angle."

Since this was an event all about "coming together," our Design Team really put thought into how to tie that sentiment with the designs. Finally, we thoughtfully placed neutral and light colored furniture throughout the vignette so that the centerpiece—the tablescape itself—stood out as the star and made a lasting visual impact. From Inspiration to Installation

Ultimately, the whole design process took about three weeks to finalize and execute. Like I'm sure many of you do when you start a new project at home, we first looked for inspiration images on Pinterest and collated everything on a board.

After pinning down the design direction, my Design Team and I started sourcing for furniture pieces that would fit well with the design vision—while sourcing, we also explored how we could truly maximize the space and finalize the furniture layout for the event.

"My Design Team and I carefully selected the artworks we used—since this was a charity event for the BCRF, we wanted to highlight female grace and empowerment in the face of challenges. We handpicked pieces of artwork that depicted women and some coastal art that had more fluid and feminine elements."

We finished the whole look of the space by adding decor, pillows, and dinnerware that would make the space more visually complete and appealing. We wanted to make it look very beautiful and impactful.

Fantastical Florals

One aspect of this project that was particularly fun and inspiring was the fact that we were able to work with one of our very favorite stylists, Oak Laokwansathitaya, and his florist Ryan Norville.

We worked closely with Oak and Ryan on three very special floral designs to complement our tabletop design: A grand arrangement in a vessel for the console table, a canopy-style aerial arrangement, and a dining table runner arrangement with a waterfall effect that ran all the way to the floor.
