We fell hard for the above image when we came across it on Pinterest last week. We love the look of a traditional chair reupholstered in a more modern print – so we couldn’t help but put together a little moodboard to help you get the look. It gives this French Country vanity area a little bit of edge, something that’s difficult when you’re working within the confines of French Country decor. See, French Country, beautiful as it is, is anything but edgy. And yet, this space feels just the slightest bit off kilter. Part of the bedroom inside a killer traditional NYC apartment designed by Alexander Doherty (see the full spread on Domaine), this little nook is at once chic but oh so cozy. We could sit at the little desk, plug in our laptop, and work for hours. It can be hard to put together a nook that is at once a vanity and an office space – it’s quite different to apply your makeup than it is to do your taxes – but this space appears to be able to do it all. We can see ourselves getting ready each morning, placing a small mirror atop this French Country vanity, or replacing the mirror with a pin-board and turning it into an office space. In fact, there’s no reason the space can’t be both, all the time. That’s why Apple invented laptops, of course!
