When it comes to purchasing a set of sheets, longevity is (and should be) of major concern. How long sheets last depends largely on the quality of the sheets you are buying. The higher the quality, the longer the sheets should last. That is why we recommend purchasing linens from one of our trusted bedding brands such as Peacock Alley, Sferra, Pom Pom at Home, Lili Alessandra, or Ann Gish. High quality luxury linens should last at least between 3 to 5 years, depending upon the material and quality of construction. Don’t settle for throwaway sheets you’ll need to consistently replace!

Now quality is not everything when it comes to determining sheets’ staying power. The lifespan of linens also depends on how you are using and caring for them. Continue reading below for a few factors to consider when settling on a set of sheets (and some tips on how to maximize longevity).
How long sheets last obviously depends on the type and quality of materials from which they have been crafted. Just like clothes, sheets made from cotton tend to wear out more quickly. Linens crafted from polyester blends and other fabrics tend to last longer.
Type of Sheet
When determining how long your sheets should last, you need to also consider what type of sheet you’re dealing with. As a rule, flat sheets tend to last longer than fitted sheets. This is because fitted sheets get more wear and tear between being stretched to fit the bed and our tossing and turning at night.
Frequency of Use
Another factor to consider is how often you use a given set of sheets. If you are using the same sheets every single night, they will wear out more quickly than if you cycle between different sets of sheets. In order to prolong your sheets’ lifespans, we suggest rotating between 2-3 sets of linens. This way each set will get some time to rest and you will always have fresh sheets on hand.
Another major factor in determining how long sheets last is how they are cared for. When laundering luxury linens, they should be treated with care like a delicate, luxury garment. Avoid washing sheets with harsh detergents and drying them on high heat to prolong their lifespan. Excessive heat and chemicals can cause sheet fibers to deteriorate and fitted sheets’ elasticity to wane. Invest in a gentle detergent designed for sheets, like Leblanc Linen Wash. Linen water, sprayed on sheets once on the bed, is also a great option for lending sheets a clean, crisp fragrance.
