Whether you’re planning a Thanksgiving dinner this year with just your immediate family, or if you’re able to have some guests from your “pod” over to celebrate in a socially-distanced manner, one thing still rings true: How you set the table and how you serve your meal on your Thanksgiving table can make all the difference when it comes to setting the mood for an elegant and meaningful holiday.
My expert Design Team and I put our heads together to bring you three unique–and, actually, oh-so-easy–tips for creating an inviting Thanksgiving table that reflects your values and personality and lets the spirit of the holiday shine through for a wonderful day with loved ones!

First Things First: Pick Your Color Scheme
Often, when we think of Thanksgiving, the colors that come to mind are burnt orange, warm tan tones, and goldenrod–and actually, those are all lovely colors and if you love them, use them. But that said, there’s also no reason not to depart from the norm and experiment with other color options. For Thanksgiving you can go beyond just orange and tan and brown and it can still feel inviting, warm, and seasonal.
Your decor and the color scheme that you select will serve as the backdrop to all of the connections and meaningful moments you cultivate. Connectivity and conversation are the centerpieces, and the decor is the backdrop and the facilitator to that. Your decor fosters the mood.

Don’t Be Afraid to Let Your Personality Shine
When setting your table, consider where you want to have some fun and let your own personality shine through in your decor choices–think: a colorful floral arrangement and candlesticks, or a fall basket as a centerpiece. If you’d like to go more classic on the centerpiece, then think about using napkins, napkin rings, your tablecloth and runner, or placemats to add color and flare.
Thanksgiving, for me, is a time to spend time with family and with loved ones. It’s a time to bring in traditions and a moment to define what your family traditions are. This is a moment to create a timestamp to say “this is how I want it to be–this is how I want to host, who I want to invite, and the conversations I want to have, and the mood I want to create.” That’s how I think about hosting and defining my tabletop–I think about how I want it to feel.

Give Your Food the VIP Treatment
My final Thanksgiving tabletop tip is all about the food! Since you’ll be spending so much time preparing your holiday meal, make sure you give it the VIP treatment with premium serveware that’s not only top quality, but also looks beautiful!
In my opinion, everyone needs to own a set of Staub cookware! They have this very beautiful rich, red maroon cast-iron cookware set that I think is very seasonally appropriate and is truly worthy of an elegant Thanksgiving feast. Everything looks and tastes better in it. I also love the chunky wooden cheeseboards and serving bowls–which my kids inevitably end up filling with LEGOs when my back is turned (#MomLife)!
