Industrial Bachelor Pad Design Ideas

Industrial Bachelor Pad Design Ideas

The Kuotes graciously welcomes you to our rendition of the industrial bachelor pad. Let’s give you the official tour: Here, next to the entrance, we have a gathering of muddy sneakers and tossed track jackets. Over by the sixty-inch television, you’ll find the latest in home decor. This trendy new collection in the world of interior design is called “bro-tastic bourgeois,” composed entirely of empty beer cans and half-finished crumpled bags of Cheetos. And make sure not to miss the… shall we say interesting aroma that surrounds us. Givenchy and Clive Christian are certainly competing over this scent formula—a mixture of dirty laundry and microwaved pizza they’re calling Eau de… Oh wait, our bad. It’s just Axe body spray.

Does this seem at all familiar? Designing a bachelor pad can be a battle. Though, it’s not too late to implement industrial bachelor pad ideas that look great and also feel great—fresh, modern, and masculine. Whether you’re a design-savvy guy looking for inspiration or you know a bro in need of a severe home makeover, read below on how to get the industrial bachelor loft look that you’ll love.

Industrial Bachelor Pad Design Concepts

Here at the Kuotes, we’re big fans of the industrial loft look. Characterized by wide open spaces and industrial, factory-like finishes, the loft look was born out of buildings that lived a previous life. Let’s break down what we see in the photo featured above (we’re DROOLING over it)! The big open space creates a bachelor pad you can breathe in. With too much furniture and decor (say adios to your rubber stamp La-Z-Boy and old high school trophies), the bachelor pad often suffers from clutter. Start simple and lay out your space with strong statement pieces like that beautiful leather armchair, great area rug, or hanging wall clock.

The industrial bachelor pad is all about materials and texture. Distressed leather, iron, steel, and reclaimed wood all create an atmosphere that captures both the modern and the masculine. For texture, add in something unexpected for an intricate layered look—like a kilim pillow on leather or an industrial iron cabinet with a leather tray on top. Start with some industrial wallpaper and add a rustic mirror or fierce wall hanging. The key is finding the balance between simple and boring by adding subtle details that tell your life adventures. Choose pieces that are sophisticated but also cater to your unique personality.

Let’s Talk About Lighting!

For the industrial bachelor pad, we’re loving large windows. Natural lighting, if you have it, is the best way to go. Just look at that gorgeous windowed ceiling in the photo featured above! Accentuate high ceilings by using hanging light fixtures or track lighting to keep a space big and bright. You want the light fixtures to look like they could’ve been borrowed from the factory down the street. Some lighting no-nos we see in too many bachelor pads? Avoid florescent lighting (no need for your entertaining space to look like a frat basement), and choose individual task lamps for areas that need it (like your desk or reading nook) instead of those tall five-head multidirectional floor lamps that look the hydra from Hercules.

Other trends we think look great? Exposed brick, concrete floors, and iron framing are common in industrial lofts because they incorporate rough urban elements into a room yet remain stylish. In big open lofts, one strategy is to use area rugs and furniture to separate “rooms” in a large wall-free space. Additionally, we learned at the 2015 Kips Bay Decorator Show House that wall hangings are big this year. So don’t leave yours empty (although the slightly disturbing child playing cat’s cradle is totally optional).

Still feeling a little lost? Let’s review. Any good industrial space needs the following: light, wood, brick, leather, and metal. Put those elements together, and the rest is simple. But just in case you’re looking for a bit more guidance, check out our Design Services at Kathy Kuo Home.
