Tell us about a notable project from the past few years.
Collaborating with House Beautiful on their 6th annual “Whole Home” Design project was such a treat [see photos below]! I had the opportunity to be one designer on this “all women” led project, and I developed the concept for the entryway, staircase, and upstairs landing.
“The former receiving room boasted a wall-covering that just had to stay. I felt like this was an opportunity to show people, if you have a house with amazing features or details, don’t rip them out! Lean into it, make it relevant, and honor the roots of the house in a fresh new way!”
I gave the room a more modern sensibility, carving out a true entryway—not just a vast hallway that flowed into other spaces, but a place where you could greet guests before moving into the nearby dining room.

How would you describe the style of your own home?
Our last house was French Acadian style, with lots of warm neutral colors. It was so much more traditional and heavy. I’m grateful we had the chance to kind of start from scratch with our current home.
We completely renovated it and combined some of the traditional architectural elements with more contemporary elements. I also brought in colors and furnishings that are very current. It’s contemporary and clean, but there’s a warmth to it.

Do you have a favorite interior design style to work with on projects?
My personal favorite in terms of design style is warm contemporary. I love clean lines and spaces that feel open and airy while allowing architectural elements and statement art/lighting to be the star of the show!
What have been some of the biggest joys and challenges you’ve faced in your career in the design industry?
My biggest joys have been seeing a client walk into their newly installed space for the first time. It always reminds me and my team of why all of the hard work was worth it.
‘My lows have been anytime I’ve felt like I’ve disappointed or let a client down. It is so important to me that they have the best experience and get the best results, so any time I feel like I’ve missed in this area, I’m motivated to try to figure out how to improve our processes to avoid that happening in the future!

What advice would you give someone who wants to work with an interior designer on their home, but they feel intimidated or hesitant? For someone who’s never worked with a designer, what’s the major upside?
For someone interested in working with an interior designer on their home, I would suggest reaching out to have a quick phone call with the designer you’d like to work with (or a team member) to learn more about what to expect.
Most designers got into this business because we love to help people achieve their home dreams, so don’t feel intimidated or threatened. We’re here to serve you or to recommend resources that would be more appropriate if our firm isn’t the right fit.
Speaking to fellow design pros: What advice do you have about working a challenging client or overcoming unforeseen obstacles on a design project?
I’ve been in this game for over 10 years, but it wasn’t until two or three years ago that I could say, I don’t have to do every project for everybody. I was coming off an experience where I’d seen the red flags and I took the project anyway, and it was a disaster—emotionally—for me and the client.
Now, I do a debrief on every project, whether it’s good or bad, and I teach my team to do it too. We can’t just rest on the high. There is a high in the finish and we can celebrate, but then we have to go back through the process and tighten it. What were the opportunities to improve? How do you think the client felt about this? What could we have done better? We’re learning from each project.

Where do you draw the most inspiration from as a designer?
I am devouring travel videos and photography, and have been making an epic bucket list of all the places I want to go. Travel is by far one of the most influential sources of inspiration for my design projects.
Outside of work, where do you find joy and peace?
I love to unwind with a good K-Drama or an interesting read, but I find peace being with my family. My supportive husband Reggie, my wonderful children, Sebastian and Lauryn, and my loving mother, Pam, are my sources of motivation! Of course, my daily walks with my golden-poodle, Toby, never fail to make me smile either!
