Hi, cuties! I’m thrilled to kick off the month of April with our latest KKH Trade Member Spotlight: Meet Lindsey Gilley of Lindsey Gilley Interiors! Based in Houston, TX, Lindsey Gilley Interiors is a full-service interior design firm, specializing in residential interiors in the greater Houston area.
Lindsey herself is a former HR and recruiting pro who launched Lindsey Gilley Interiors as a way to pursue her creative passions. She also stays busy as a mother-of-four (#SuperMom!) and loves to play tennis, travel, and enjoy quality time with her family when she’s not designing gorgeous transitional spaces (complete with plenty of unique and colorful twists, as you’ll see in the photos here).
“[I have been working with the KKH Trade Program] for a few years. It has been a good resource for us to source from as KKH carries many of the lines we purchase from yet all on one site.” -Lindsey Gilley

Tell our readers about your business—what are your specialities and core offerings?
We offer full-service residential interior design services. From building a new home, small to large scale renovations, to clients who solely want to focus on updating or changing the interior of their home.

Do you have a favorite interior design style to work with on projects?
We do not have a specific style that we stick to on projects that we decide to take on. However, I would say a large part of our clientele would lean more transitional in design. We try to get to know our client’s style and taste well before designing their home.
“We want our clients to love their new space (as much as we do) that we have created together.”
How would you describe the style of your own home? What’s your favorite piece of furniture or decor that you own?
I would probably also describe my personal home as transitional. You will find both old and new pieces and designs. My favorite pieces have actually been ones passed down through my family that hold sentimental value. I have one chair that has been reupholstered several times that still sits in my living room, and I still love it to this day.

Tell us about a notable project from the past few years.
One of my favorite projects was a couple of years ago. The client’s house wound up actually being my husband’s old childhood home; it was so neat to be a part of those renovations.
What have been some of the biggest joys and challenges you’ve faced in your career in the design industry?
The greatest joy is watching our ideas come to fruition and seeing the client just as happy as we are with the results. Getting to be a part of turning houses into homes is very fulfilling. Some challenges we have faced would be, of course, the COVID delays and shut-downs.

Are there any design trends you see on the horizon for the year to come? Any trends on their way out?
I think darker brown tones will be coming back more often in both upholstery and wood tones. You will probably notice them in main living spaces to offer more warmth and comfort to the overall design.
“Gray tones seem to be on their way out, but wallpaper and pleated shades are also here to stay which makes us very excited!”
What advice would you give someone who wants to work with an interior designer, but they feel intimidated or hesitant? For someone who’s never worked with a designer, what’s the major upside?
I think the main piece of advice would be to trust the process. It definitely is fun, but can also be a tedious process at times depending on the scope of your project (but that’s what we are here for!). You are making an investment in your home, so make sure you know that you and your interior designer are a good fit before beginning.

Speaking to fellow design pros: what advice do you have about working a challenging client or overcoming unforeseen obstacles on a design project?
Each client is different and can be a learning experience when things may become challenging. Things don’t always go as planned in this industry, but we try to handle unforeseen obstacles the best we can. Every problem has a solution, right?
Where do you draw the most inspiration from as an interior designer?
I love scouring design books (old and new) and also enjoy exploring new places to stay when we travel for inspiration. However, when designing a project I often find myself tweaking things up until the last minute before a presentation. I just know when I know that it’s finally done!
