Living In: Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen’s Los Angeles Oasis

Living In: Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen’s Los Angeles Oasis

Anyone thinking that the home of supermodel Gisele Bündchen and Patriots superstar quarterback Tom Brady would be a lavish affair is about to be proven wrong by this series of photos, shot for Architectural Digest, of the Brady/Bündchen residence in Brentwood. Those expecting football jerseys adorning the walls, or shots of Gisele’s many magazine covers proliferating the place would also be wrong. There’s nary a protein shake to be seen in the home, which, despite its size (it’s a sprawling 22,000 feet), feels–as crazy as it sounds–quite normal.

Simplicity and Coziness

Says Bündchen in the feature: “I like simplicity and coziness,” says the renowned Brazilian beauty. “I want to live in a place that feels like a real home, where you can put your feet up on the couch and just relax.” Brady seconds the notion: “Gisele and I have eight sisters between us, and there are lots of kids. We built this house as a sanctuary for our family—a place where we can enjoy being together.”

Unlike many other celebrities, who prefer a “finished” home, Bündchen and Brady started from scratch –literally –on a patch of land they discovered six years ago.

Comfort is Key

“It was important for us to plant roots for our family, and since we both enjoy the creative process, we decided to start from scratch,” Brady recalls.

To help refine their vision of domestic bliss, the pair engaged architect Richard Landry and one of his frequent collaborators, interior designer Joan Behnke. “I’m all about team dynamics and putting the right people together,” says the future Hall of Famer and owner of three Super Bowl rings. “We knew Richard and Joan could take us where we wanted to go without imposing a signature look. They understood that we wanted a comfortable house, not a style statement.”

Sustainable and Chic

As if this wasn’t impressive enough, the couple also believes in living responsibly. In working with Landry, they attempted to use as many recycled components as possible, and also took care to implement energy and water systems that would help to ameloriate the family’s impact on the land. Then there’s the composting, as well as the gray-water technology for irrigation, plus environmentally friendly construction materials and solar panels (some on the roof, some near the garden).

“From the beginning we asked everyone involved in the design and construction, ‘How can we make it as sustainable as possible?’” Bündchen says.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how it’s done. Bündchen and Brady for prez!
