Shells Aren’t Just for Summer Anymore

Shells Aren’t Just for Summer Anymore

Kathy Kuo Home 11:58 am

It is now fall. Whichever way you turn, pumpkin spice aggressively fills your nostrils. Gourds and candy corn flood the supermarket aisles, and leaves fall from the trees, blanketing the parks and streets in a rich, beautifully-hued metaphor for death. Now, we’re mostly joking. Who doesn’t like apple picking, hot coffee, and snuggly sweaters? …but don’t you miss summer just a little bit? For all of you sunshine junkies out there, this post is for you.

Kathy’s dining table centerpiece is a beautiful plaster cast clam shell from our Coastal Beach collection:

This inspired, aphroditic shell has been a style icon for ages, so we’re IN LOVE… but we also live in New York City, and for the fall and winter, this piece might feel a little ill-suited for the East Coast lifestyle. But if you love the Coastal Beach look, the Kuotes is here to show you how to freshen this piece for fall. There are so many decorative pieces on our site and in your home that can be transformed throughout the year, and this is one of them! Shells aren’t just for summer and beach towns anymore. Grab some harvest items, and create a beautiful piece ready for the season. Don’t believe us? We’ll prove it to you:

For our first look, we went all-fall: white pumpkins that we picked, leaves from the local park here in Harlem, and some harvest potpourri to fill out any empty spaces.

Pro Tip: Don’t stress too much about the arrangement. Choose a beautiful color palette (we went with white, red, and orange) and lots of different materials for the fill, and the piece will come together organically. Even Maya helped a little with the arrangement!

If you want a more everyday look, try going with greens and browns and grasses, like our second look below. We think that this is a great fall look as well, especially with the apples and acorns we threw in, but it could easily be repurposed into a look that could be used year round!
